Presentation title:
Creating sustainable Olive groves: Reversing desertification and bringing biodiversity back to a barren land
Presentation abstract:
In the desertified land of Sigri village, in Lesvos Island, a new ecosystem was created enriching nutrient-poor soil, restoring biodiversity, and bringing life back to where there was only barren land. Terraces were formed in once infertile sloping grounds, preventing soil erosion. 50.000 olive trees and many more were planted. Committed to Regenerating Agriculture since the birth of this venture, the ground was nourished by creating a compost synthesis from the local Posidonia seaweed and organic matter. All the scientific data collected from such sustainable practices & innovations demonstrated that all good agricultural practices, have reversed the desertification of this land & brought biodiversity back.
