Matthaios Frantzeskakis

Director and writer from Chania, founder of the Chania Film Festival and the Gastronomy and Travel Festival, with a special focus on documentary, educational use of cinema, and oral history.

CV:
Matthaios Frantzeskakis was born in Chania and studied Mathematics at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Since 2000, he has been actively involved in cinema, with a focus on documentary and its educational applications. He is the founder and director of the Chania Film Festival (www.chaniafilmfestival.com) and the newly established Gastronomy and Travel Film Festival. He has directed short and feature-length documentaries and authored several books. He serves as President of the Pancretan Association of Friends of Mikis Theodorakis.
He works in oral history through audiovisual recordings and publications (www.creteoralhistory.org). He wrote Olive Oil: The Great Secret of Cretan Diet and Longevity (Pyxida Publishing) and created the documentary The Ancient Olive of Vouves. He is also part of the team designing and implementing the Intangible Cultural Heritage Index of Crete, the first regional inventory.
