Full Professor of Pharmacognosy and Chemistry of Natural Products and Director of the “Utilization of Bioactive Natural Products” laboratory of the Department of Pharmacy of EKPA

Leandros A. Skaltsounis is Full Professor of Pharmacognosy and Chemistry of Natural Products and Director of the “Utilization of Bioactive Natural Products” laboratory of the Department of Pharmacy of EKPA, in which he has been president 4 times. He obtained his degree in Pharmacy from EKPA in 1981 and his PhD from Descartes University, Paris V in 1987 under the supervision of Professor Francois Tillequin. He then worked for six years as an academic staff and returned to EKPA as an assistant professor in 1993. He was a visiting professor at the Universities of Orléans (France) Innsbruck (Austria) as well as at the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He leads a research team of 30 researchers focused on the discovery of bioactive natural products with applications in the field of pharmaceuticals, biofunctional foods, cosmetics and agrochemicals. He is also the founder of the biotech spin-off Pharmagnose (2013). He has participated in 16 EU projects, 8 as a coordinator he has organized 2 international conferences on the chemistry of natural products, in Athens in 2008 and 2018. To date he has published 400 papers and 20 patents with more than 21,000 references (h-index 69).
